Feeling Safe Versus Being Safe

Feeling safe As a self defence instructor I get to meet lots of people on courses and workshops, some of whom have already attended other courses and all of whom already have opinions and ideas on what constitutes a nice personal security strategy.

be feeling safe

of the fascinating points that gets raised is the steps people will go to in order to make themselves FEEL safer (feeling safe)  and often without giving much more thought in to the practicalities of their actions and assessing whether these steps are actually going towards making them BE safer.

I think this is best explained with a few hints and tips I have seen offered on various self defence courses and instructional guidelines.

Tell someone where you are going
Over a rape/attack alarm
Only walk in areas you are familiar with
And some suggestions I have heard from attendees of various courses and even heard of in victim interviews

Say you'll call when you arrive for be feel safe or (feeling safe)
Over a pair of scissors in your handbag
Talk to your partner on a mobile in case you feel nervous whilst jogging to be feeling safe
I take Boxercise classes and know how to punch now
be feeling safe with yourself
